Q&A:
- What makes you think you can sit overseas and change Ghana for the better?
Our efforts are based on partnerships and networking. We believe every Ghanaian has something positive to contribute to their country's development. What we try to do is to harness that potential for change and leadership and channel it to serve in our nation. Our mission is not to 'fix' Ghana by remote control.
We believe in local solutions by local people with global-level expertise. While we do not claim to have a panacea for Ghana 's underdevelopment, we do know that our well-meaning efforts no matter how small will go a long way to make a difference in someone's life.
- Why should I trust you with my money?
Our watchwords are accountability, openness, selflessness and service. Our founders did not start this initiative for personal gain. If they did, they wouldn't have channeled their own financial resources and time into making it succeed. Ours is a labor of love that is performed with diligence and honesty. We have strict fiscal and budget controls and we guarantee optimal value for money. We make our accounts and activities open to members and stakeholders as a sign of our commitment to transparency.
Your money goes into secure accounts from where it is applied to projects that you are allowed to indicate at the time of your donation. Please see
www.gsoluxions.com for our current nonprofit projects and partner support options. We prefer that you make a general donation, which will be applied by the discretion of our shrewd board members to projects with the most need.
- What's the connection between networking, leadership and service?
Our belief is that the three are critical ingredients for unleashing the latent potential of Ghana 's human capital base overseas and reversing the adverse consequences of the brain drain problem. You need networking to build bridges, you need leadership to cross the bridge and make transformational changes, and you need selfless service to make it worthwhile, useful and fulfilling.
- Why do you have to separate members into groups? Is that not promoting exclusivity and elitism, the very things you want to do away with?
We do this to make our networking and planning efforts easier. It also makes it easier to trace our membership demographics and tailor our programs to their needs.
- What about the people who cannot even have access to clean drinking water let alone the Internet, how can your so-called development reach them?
The poor, destitute and underprivileged: these are the people whose lives we ultimately hope to impact. But despite our direct-impact projects (
www.gsoluxions.com ) the trickle down effect from our leadership and network programs may be slowly felt. However, we are sure that when we do the little we can, people who are better placed to help in Ghana 's socio-economic development will take up their places and start assisting from a grassroots level.
- What is unique about this project and why should I be interested?
We are not a foundation. We are an * active membership * organization focused on networking, leadership and service.
Our aim is to make it as easy as possible for young Ghanaians to contribute to their nation's development. We do not reserve any right to develop Ghana but rather we hope to share the responsibility with as many people as we can. Our concept is one of shared ownership and involvement-collective participation. We have identified three clear avenues which young Ghanaians especially those living abroad can engage in and associate with: networking, leadership and service. We hope every one in our target group can at least engage with one of these three missions.
We don't just plan projects and do it ourselves; we get people involved and help them pursue their own interests within our core networking, leadership, and service framework.
- If I give a donation and I want it back, can I get it?
Yes! All donations are refundable within 30 days. You may however have to pay bank charges and any other costs involved in the transfer. While we regret any rescinded decisions, we also respect your right not to contribute.
- How can I make large donations and what would you use it for?
You can make all donations on our web site via PAYPAL or mail checks to our address. If you are not enthused about any of our projects or want to start your own or contribute to a different cause, please contact one of our executive board members and we will get back to you for further discussion. No amount is too small or too large.
- I have no money and I cannot volunteer, how else can I help?
You can help us to extend our network of friends, members, donors and volunteers. You can also join our social networking site
www.ghanaunite.com and enjoy our *FREE* services. And when you are able to contribute to our cause, do remember us.
- How can you claim to promote development and yet not engage with politics?
While it is true that development stems from a stable and sound political leadership, we believe there is a lot the youth can contribute regardless. What we try to do is to assist the youth to do what they can outside of politics or the traditional establishments.
- I am in Ghana and want to help, can I donate in cedis?
Yes you can. Please ask an executive board member for details of our Ghana accounts.
